Alright, So I'm not back to start a full-out war this time... I just came here, took every pair, side by side, took my preference and looked which one I liked better. I was shocked! I had only one pair in common with the winners. But hey, I don't have eye for coloring stuff, I think. Just a funny fact I came upon and wanted to share with you guys...

These battles are the only way I get anything finished!!
A deadline always helps.

It's only the high standards of these battles that have helped to push me, to bring something more polished / different to the table......
I can already seen an improvement from my first battle (no. 15)

Thanks to everyone involved!!

Looking forward to No.18.....

First off, my apologies to everyone for taking so long in getting around to judging this round. My schedule's just been a little messy this last week. Anyway, no more delays - let's just get down to it.

:iconpistolpolly: vs :iconh1w0:
:iconpistolpolly: overall this is a little dark, but your muted palette gives it a nice sorta dated feel that suits the character.
:iconh1w0: a much simpler approach to rendering here, , but quite effective nonetheless. Your rendering is maybe a little untidy and your palette is a bit too primary, but you've made a great job of establishing the light source.
verdict: :iconh1w0: on account of that nice side-lighting

:iconnimprod: vs :icontimareezadel:
:iconnimprod: the rendering is a bit flat, but again the muted palette lends a nice flavour to the piece, and you've made a really nice job of putting together a convincing cover
:icontimareezadel: much warmer palette than anyone else has used, but quite effective. I really like how you've softened the edge of the title to integrate it into the image too - together with the blood splatter it helps give this a very solid poster image
verdict: :icontimareezadel: the warm palette gives you the edge here, I think

:iconshadowrenderer: vs :icontas1138:
:iconshadowrenderer: very little rendering here, but your gradients do a good ob of conveying the lighting, and I like your wisp of smoke
:icontas1138: blood splatter on the figure does kinda suit the Comedian, and the secondary light source is an effective aditional touch
verdict: :icontas1138: the more rendered approach wins out

:icongreeniegurl: vs :icongmcconnell:
:icongreeniegurl: another nice cover mockup, good rendering and nice use of texture on the backdrop
:icongmcconnell: well-balanced colours and perfect positioning of the the spotlight on the background gives this entry a wonderful sense of depth, and the wood texture is a nice touch too.
verdict: :icongmcconnell: a close call, but that spot really works wonders

:iconjeremycolwell: vs :icondeadnemo:
:iconjeremycolwell: that warm background really helps to 'pop' the character, and that subtle sublight is a very nice addition too
:icondeadnemo: the palette is a little simple, but your rendering is nicely balanced and I really like how you've thought to place half of the smoke plume in shadow - a small detail, but I do love my details, and it's a very effective touch
verdict: :icondeadnemo: a close call again, but nemo's rendering wins him this one (and I really am that much of a sucker for nice details)

:iconbenbrush: vs :iconhoodxred:
:iconbenbrush: simple but effective cel-shaded rendering and a well-crafted sidebar. The blue of his shoulder guard is perhaps a little too vivid in comparison to the rest of the pallette, but nice work regardless
:iconhoodxred: a touch washed-out on the arm, but otherwise all round good work
verdict: :iconhoodxred: these two entries went for similar approaches, but Hood's rendering wins him this round

:iconltartist: vs :iconcreation-matrix:
:iconltartist: nice use of palette to pop the figure from the background, and something about how you've handled this somehow makes his pose seem ... more casual, for some reason. Absolutely no idea why! ^_^
:iconcreation-matrix: some nice highlights, and the strong orange glow from his cigar gives a nice counterpoint to the predominantly blue palette
verdict: :iconltartist: the broader palette wins this match

:icondanielbeastboy: vs :iconfabiancobos: vs :iconwynrex04:
:icondanielbeastboy: a nice attempt to balance the palette with the Watchmen logo and points for trying to bring in a second light-source, but your palette is overall too primary
:iconfabiancobos: easily the most muted palette of the bunch, but it's very well balanced and the execution is simple but very effective. Good use of texture in the background too, overall giving this the feel of an old newpaper clipping
:iconwynrex04: I like the little fire-sparks at the bottom - helps to give a clue to the source of the lighting and also suggests that the Comedian has been up to his old tricks. A simple little touch that adds a nice bit of additional storytelling to the image
:iconfabiancobos: hard to pick again, but I'm goung to give it to Fabian's subtle palette and rendering

BBP, as ever, is tough to pick. I had some nice pieces to choose from, but in the end I decided to go for :icongmcconnell: and that well-placed spotlight. It lends a nice touch of realisim to the piece. Congrats to all contestants tho - another good round.

wow it seems like these lines brought out the very best in ya.alot of quality showings this week and only 2 no shows.NOW THAT I LIKE!.
ok you guys know me ,i just pick the better piece..

2. :iconpistolpolly: vs :iconh1w0:
polly pretty good showing but you still have to work on making your pieces not come out so muddy and dark.h1 also a solid showing but that blur effect that you give everything could have end up costing you.

winner!
:iconh1w0:

3. :iconnimprod: vs :icontimareezadel:
a very tough battle her to decide a winner.nimp you did a very good job on making it look like an authentic cover with all the credits and stuff.your colors were also very solid, but you maybe played it a lil safe on the skin.could have used some more hi-lights in that department.sunrise awesome color pallete on this one, with very good use of ambient light.just an all around solid job.

winner!
:icontimareezadel:

4. :iconshadowrenderer: vs :icontas1138:
shadow youw work here is solid but very basic.have some fun, play with some hilights and stuff next time.tas very interesting color choices but you make them work for you to give your piece a more unique look than the others from this week.

winner!
:icontas1138:

5. :icongreeniegurl: vs :icongmcconnell:
this can easily take BB because there are no negs on these 2 jobs, but since i dont give draws i have to pick a winner between 2 very well done pieces.in a very close decison am going with greenie but really this match could go either way mconnell can hold his head up high.

winner!
:icongreeniegurl:

6. :iconjeremycolwell: vs :icondeadnemo:
another tough battle thats in the running for BB.jeremy very good job love the use of ambient light.nemo one of your better showing to date just love the color choices here.

winner!
:icondeadnemo:

7. :iconbenbrush: vs :iconhoodxred:
ben overall a good job but am just not a fan of the color choices.almost looks like to safe.hoodx defenitely your best work submitted to the club to date.very vibrant and well blended.

winner!
:iconhoodxred:

8. :iconltartist: vs :iconcreation-matrix:
very well excuted pallete by ltartist here.its dark but its by design and not by mistake and you can tell which is hard for some colorist to do.matrix has a very good showing here but doest do enough to stand out against hei opponent this week.

winner!
:iconltartist:

9. :icondanielbeastboy: vs :iconfabiancobos: vs :iconwynrex04:
beastboy an aight job but you have to work on your blending skills and hilights.fabian you went with a very bland and unsaturated pallete but you made it work very well here one of my faves from the week.wynrex you on the other hand went with a very saturated pallete and imo it hurt your overall good job cause its too saturated.

winner!
